Snatchy throttle fix

Hi , Not sure if this adjustment can be carried out on FZ 09 s but with MTs and all Euro Yamahas for that matter the CO or Fuel mixtures can be adjusted through the instrument cluster , they are limited but can adjusted none the less , i have adjusted mine 10 digits above standard and has smoothed the throttle snatch in standard mode completely and has made the throttle snatch or off/ on throttle application only slightly noticable in A mode , for those that dont know , there are U tube clips how to change , or search CO Adjustment , i believe for US bikes they need a jumper wire to perform , i eventually settled on 15 digits above standard which my factory settings were 0 for all 3 cylinders , if anyone has access to a gas analyzer it would be great to know what the idle mixtures are when changing settings as the setting range is between -128 and + 126 , cheers

Can you confirm that in the diagnostic mode CO adjustment, that you have C1,C2 & C3 options?
I ask because I have done some research on other Yamaha forums and it appears that different models have different adjustments. On some models like the R1 and R6 they have C1,C2,C3 & C4 and the adjustment alters the fuel/air mixture for each cylinder over the whole rev range.Another model (FZ6)? there is only C1 & C2 and they change the mixture for cylinders 1&4 and 2&3 respectively over the whole rev range. Then another model has C1,C2,C3 & C4 and those alter the mixture for all the cylinders together but each applies to a different rev band/throttle position combination.
It will be interesting to see which of these options the FZ/MT uses.

Edit : actually the FZ6 C1 & C2 changes the mixture for two rev bands on all the cylinders eg. high revs and low revs

Yes , mine is also C1 ,C2,C3 , in any case have a fiddle , let us know what yr factory settings are and what you have found to be the best for you , the MT-09 is new to us so lets try a few things :)

i accessed the diag menu just to see last night and it gives the option to alter the co on 1 2 and 3. easy to access. i just put each one on plus 1. not had chance to ride yet. i dont know if it will make any difference. i suspect altering it too high will make it too rich and reduce the power, giving the effect of easing the throttle snatch. plus possibly damaging the cat. i am definitely no expert so once it is run in i will take it to OTC dyno and ask pete to have a look.

yamaha has given an adjustment range of -128 to +126 , not sure 1 digit will make a sufficient difference , it would also be kinder to the engine if any adjustments made are the same on all cylinders , without a gas analyzer to go further mine are set 15 digits above the factory setting of 0 , 10 digits made a big change i went a further 5 with only a marginal change in the throttle response :)

What sort of changes did you get. Does it feel like you have lost/gained power. Has the snatchy throttle gone.

It's strange, isn't it?
Some people goes on about a snatchy throttle. I can't find out if people are ûber-sensitive about it.

My MT runs as fun as possible. Yes, I do need to know my throttle, but like brakes, seats, handles whatever, and no matter if it is a car or a bike, you always have to get used to it.
I'm not nagging over mine - I think it behaves as it should - naughty and full of power, quick to respond when ever the lid goes down.... ;)

I just love the bloody bike! :D

You cant tell me that your throttle isn't a bit crap, everyones is some people don't mind it so much and some people know what a throttle should be. Most of it is in between wrist and brain agree. But unless your just pinging the gas all day, The other side of the throttle is crap and people just want to fix it. As most people say, it's the only thing wrong with the bike. I have other fly by wire bikes and they are nothing like this. Different strokes different folks.

Exactly, it isn't crap to my likings ;)
On a scale from 1 to 10, where 10 is the best ever throttle, I'd give it 7,5-8, and my previous Ducati Multistrada would get a 9.
My old Dorsoduro would only get 4, but only in Sport-mode.

So yeah, I do genuinely think, it is as much "just an idea" people have, that it is not right. And fair enough; but I don't think the criticism is fair/justified
I really like how mine reacts, gives me lot of pleasure to play with my throttle ..... (Ahem!)

Not sure what contribution yr post has to this thread or helping us in any way , everything in life is a comparison to something else , no matter if it is a car , bike or even a girlfriend , good luck to people who are happy with what they have , im sure people were also happy with the horse and cart , but we as people who evolve to make things better thought of building a motorised mode of transport , thankfully :)

Moto GP bikes are ideally the pinacle of motorcyles when it comes to modern technology , yet the Ducati seems to be the most difficult bike to master , aggresive power and lack of front end feel , i doubt anyone would tell Nicky Hayden he might be a little sensitive , although in hind sight sensitivity is exactly what leads us to make things better :)

How can we ever make things better if we dont know exactly what it does and how we can change it :) which is why this thread was started .

I have owned about 30 different bikes over 30 odd yrs of riding , currently have 5 , worked as a Yamaha tech and 100s of hours in the top class on various Racetracks , my experience would not even come close to all the different bikes Motorcycle Journalists have had to compare , which bike testers all around the world have mentioned the low budget suspension and snatchy throttle of the MT/FZ-09 :)

Here Here. Kids these days. Forums were designed to help people. Other comments end up starting slanging matches with little trivial quips and get the forum idea going backwards. In the 21st century we have more communication outlets, but most end up primates using them. Sorry if I offended anyone. But in truth that's how it mostly ends.

yeah, chill out.

People perceive things in different ways depending on their experiences with other bikes etc, it don't matter, no biggie, a lot of people say the MT has a snatchy throttle, me personally A mode yeah a bit, B mode no not really, I don't look at as being a problem really, I will adapt to it. I adapt all the time anyway as I constantly switch between riding 5 different bikes.

Will be talking to someone soon who is fitting exhaust and power commander. Hopefully will be going to the dyno session to see what state of tune these things can run. And to see if the initial throttle jerk can be addressed. A bit of overkill for me. These unit cost over 1/5 of the bike worth. Will update as soon as I seen.

I had a look at that dash mixture adjust thing, I have left mine at 0 for now on each cylinder as it was as default, once the first service is done I may well play a little to see if it can smooth things a little, the idle for example does seem rather on the lean side to me, when the warranty is up that cat block is coming out too! easey peasey to open up the box smash it out and weld up again.

Good point. Once the cat is out put it on a dyno to get sorted. Aftermarket exhaust is to much for me to justify and recoup the cost later. The bike is plenty powerfull as it is. And from what people are saying there should be an exhaust soonish without having to buy the pipes.
