Snatchy throttle fix

If anyone has a slight snatchy throttle, where the play is sideways. Try a spacer to suit the gap in the housing where the cables meet the twist grip. This fixed mine. But don't make it to tight.

Not damper as such. Im talking to someone as we speak about a spring to make the throttle a bit heavier. My problem was I had a bit of sideways movement. So every time I hit a small bump or tried to throttle it out of a corner, it would move about. So I cut a circle spacer to restrict sideways movement. I had thought about making it tight, but if the throttle got caught up it could end in tears. Will get back to the forum about a stiff spring.

This sounds very interesting.
I have had the same issue when trying to subtly roll on the power coming out of a corner. If Im aware of the poor surface I grip more with my knees.
I think slightly firmer (progressive) throttle resistance (this is what I meant by damping) might give better control.
I am also aware of the 'sideways' play in the throttle grip but didn't think this had any impact(?)

Give it a go. You will be surprised at the difference. Not a 100% fix, but alot better. The heavier spring we are trying tomorrow. Will update.

We have also just tried the freeplay on the throttle cable to near zero play. Also worth a look, as it's still light but more user friendly.

Ok. A mate of mine has put a spring on my throttle. Its made the throttle have more resistance. He's worked on bikes for years in many fields of racing and has done a brilliant job. The throttle feels like a normal cable operated bike. He said the spring you could get from a normal car shop. (He had spairs that did the job in his shed). Yamaha should have done this before shop floor sales. If you cant do it at least the spacer in the housing might sort most problems

Hi , Not sure if this adjustment can be carried out on FZ 09 s but with MTs and all Euro Yamahas for that matter the CO or Fuel mixtures can be adjusted through the instrument cluster , they are limited but can adjusted none the less , i have adjusted mine 10 digits above standard and has smoothed the throttle snatch in standard mode completely and has made the throttle snatch or off/ on throttle application only slightly noticable in A mode , for those that dont know , there are U tube clips how to change , or search CO Adjustment , i believe for US bikes they need a jumper wire to perform , i eventually settled on 15 digits above standard which my factory settings were 0 for all 3 cylinders , if anyone has access to a gas analyzer it would be great to know what the idle mixtures are when changing settings as the setting range is between -128 and + 126 , cheers

Do you notice changes in the power/power curve overall. Also how rich or lean without testing. May be catastrophic

Any chance of posting a link?

cheers

The power band seems smoother throughout the rev range , not sure if there is more power without a dyno run or how richer i have made the mixtures without a analyzer , i have owned several yamahas , R1s and FZ1s and have raised the settings on all including the current model R1 with all having a much smoother throttle operation afterwards , would be good to know what standard settings other MT/FZs around the world ???????

no , always started straight away , if yr having a problem when cold yrs might be running leaner , you could try raising the CO settings first and see , considering the vast range of adjustment i doubt 10-20 digits would hurt anything .

It's the same warm or cold. Just been checking other forums. It's common but no real solution.

many bikes these days are set very lean at the factory to get through tough Euro regulations , my current R1 had the same issue as yrs , would have to crank for a few secs to start hot or cold until i adjusted the CO , current Tuono V4 had snatchy throttle and felt held back until i got the Race map loaded , transformed the bike into a weapon with super smooth throttle response , used to work as a Yamaha Tech yrs ago so got to know the tricks , its always good to do yr own R & D depending how you like yr bike setup , it doesnt have to cost an arm and a leg , just some time , cheap experience if you ask me , cheers

Links please, I can not see anything on UTube relating to this.
