Drive chain puller deforming

thats probably cos its soft aluminium and not the good stuff, a bit like a lot of the fasteners, although i suspect they are made of cheese.

well heres why its deforming..........i assume the axle nut is F-off tight, right? well, when you try undoing that nut the axle tube will probably turn and lock against the adjuster block. all that torque both undoing and doing up is transmitting to a lump of aluminium with a contact depth of 2.5mm............nice.


doesnt explain why mine has been undone tho.....its only done 1500miles....

Just checked mine and its not as bad as yours Partridge, but there are definite "kinks" in the same places. I haven't adjusted the chain yet, but when i picked the bike up 1.3k miles ago I thought the chain was way too tight, mentioned it to the sales guy, he agreed and it was popped back into the workshop for a tweak, which is presumably when it got slightly deformed.
Shit grade aluminium for sure.
 
Just looked closely at the zoomed in pic of the chain adjuster and it's obvious that there is too much clearance between the adjuster block and the swing arm. Check the four corners and you can see that the block has rotated anticlockwise during the slackening off process so that the top right and bottom left corners are in contact with the swing arm and the top left and bottom right corners are clear. Shit materials and shit machining.

point it at the road ahead and twist the throttle...............there you go!........... works for me :)
 
Agreed, I remember the test ride, buckets of fun, monowheeling at will, great sound, just seems like little things are letting it down, you'd expect it from a chinese copy, not a genuine Yamaha.
 
Quick update:
I took the bike to my local Yamaha dealer yesterday and one of the mechanics had a look. He confirmed that it has happend due to the metal being too soft and not because I have done anything stupid.
He took some pictures to send off to Yamaha. Should hear back within two weeks.
Don't worry about these little teething issues too much. My friend has just bought one of the new KTM adventure bikes and that has loads of silly little problems on it. And its rusting!
Just a new model thing I guess

Y have they done that??? I took mine in yesterday, my service manager took one look at the shock and bar ends and ordered new parts straight away. No pissin about taking pictures and sending them to Yamaha. They'll see the parts for themselves anyway when they get sent back for analysis. Job done lol

he said Yamaha might be a bit funny about replacing it, as although it is obviously been caused by the chain puller not being made of a suitable material, there is no proof that it hasent been caused by me hanging off the axle nut with a massive power bar and causing the damage myself.
my advice would be get a yamaha dealer to adjust your chain for you the first time it needs doing. atleast if they damage it you are sure to get it replaced

I can see their point I guess. Better safe than sorry. I always get the guys in the workshop to do my chain etc.

Mines is the same noticed it when I changed my rear tyre also there was not one bit of grease on the spindle or that and it's started to rust!
