It's a bit worrying really, how few 'young' motorcyclists there are generally. Probably due to how difficult and expensive it is to get a licence. Sometimes when I go to bike meets or bike dealers at the weekend, it resembles a geriatric care home day out - which of course makes me feel at home.

cos they have to do a bit more than ride round the block and stick 1 hand out when turning left..........i pulled a wheelie and skidded down the road on the 3 streets 'out of sight' of the examiner when i did my test........on an RD250DX with allspeeds......
....i passed.

A lot more difficult than it used to be (not a bad thing). Also the recent age restrictions, full licence not until age 24 (unless A2 licence held for 2 years, in which case 21) - all of this leads to people saying "not worth the hassle" and getting car licence and car.instead.
A mate of mine did his test when examiners stood on corners. He rode around the corner out of sight, did a life saver - and promptly rode into the back of a parked car and came off - he picked up the bike, looked around to see if anyone was watching - kicked car's broken light cluster under the car and carried on. He continued around the block and carried out the emergency stop procedure "what kept you" said examiner, he replied " lot's of traffic, I decided it was not safe to filter" - "well done" said examiner "always put safety first. I'm pleased to tell you that you have passed". Wot I meant was y do people find it so hard....
On average we put thru between 5-8 people a day for their mod 1 and mod 2 practical tests after however many days of training they may require. Some of them pass with flying colours, some fail badly...

What happened to the the days a few years back where you passed your test then 2 years later the license restriction came off and you were good to go on any bike. That's what I did passed the test at 18 with no lessons other then a cbt now I'm 27 I glad I passed them test when I did with all these new rules.
I blame people having a midlife crisis that's properly why they bought in the license reg changes.

Some people are still on those type of licensing... I know 2 lads that have just completed the mandatory 2years on 33bhp restriction, taken off the restrictor kits on their R6's and now ride around on full power...
Oh and you can thank the EU for the licensing law changes...they thought it would be a good idea to make the changes so it was not possible for a young chap (or chapette lol)! to just do a CBT then a normal bike licence and jump on an R1 (under the age of 24) and wrap it around the nearest tree he cud find because he cudnt handle the power or didn't have enuf riding skill/knowledge/experience to keep it rubber side down and on the tarmac...

i saw a russian fail the colour test on the red.......the thai asked him what colour it was again............its a 50/50 choice........he guessed blue (its a test to see if you can recognise a traffic light.....BLUE???).......he still got a licence
