Mirror strip down

Can the mirror head be removed from the stem. As you can see got a bit of corrosion on the stem so would like to remove the mirror head and re-paint the stem

I had a look at mine today, and I think the answer is probably 'No'. My guess is that there's a bolt or nut behind the mirror glass, and I don't think I'd fancy removing that without damage.

I painted mine with smoothrite years ago, they still look OK today. Mines a 2013 with 38000 miles
