G2 Throttle Tamer Info & Review

Mines arrived, got stung £16.67, luck of the draw i guess. Fitting would have been as easy as everyone says if it wasn't for the R&G heated grips. I reckon the grip sleeve is slightly smaller in diameter due to the elements, and the g2 tube is slightly bigger than stock, which resulted in me getting the grip half way on and that was it, it wouldn't go any further and wasn't coming back off!!! So with limited tools and knowledge i took a leaf out of birdys book of D.I.Y. and went at it with a rubber mallet. It didn't take me long to fuck up the elements and render the grip useless!!FFS. Popped down the road to M&P to get a cheapy pair of grips, cut the heated one off and reassembled. With the customs charge and the knackered grips it's been a more costly mod than i planned for but............ It works.;) Quite an improvement ,not perfect but its stopped me thinking of going down the PCv route. I'm sure my problems with the heated grips were down to my incompetence, but thought it worth mentioning.
Cheers RipGroove.

Shame about the grips mate, only way around it would be getting some emery paper around the G2 or a dremel up inside the grips I guess. Shouldn't be too hard as long as you go slowly taking of small amounts at a time and keep checking fitment until it works.

Fitted one in minutes this has transformed the bike, makes me wonder why yamaha haven't done a recall or a redesign of the throttle

I'm guessing that on the odd test ride the eagerness of the throttle makes the bike feel alive and powerful (good selling points), its only when you actually own the bike the snatchyness starts to become more apparent, and by that point Yamaha already have your money.

With hindsight ...................LOL

Thanks to makfai and his spare, I've had the pleasure of tinkering this afternoon. Other than taking a dremmel to the internal diameter of my Oxford Adventure heated grip to allow for the extra knurling on the G2, it was an easy job.

Nearly all the jerk of the on/off throttle in A mode has gone. Not totally, but soooooo much better than standard. The quality of the G2 is pretty impressive :)

Awesome! [emoji2]

I have ordered one too but tracking stopped after one day. My bike is arriving tomorrow. I had to wait like 3 months for it;-(. This forum helped me to survive that 3 months and I bought quite a few things for mt-09 not having it :-))
I hope the G2 tamer is as good as RipGroove advertises it:-)

Anyway anyone had tracking stopped in Chicago? I have also checked local post tracking nothing there.

My tracking was useless, it actually arrived at my house about 4 days before the tracking said it was even in the right country.

USPS tracking is absolutely horrible! Just like the rest of their services. But this is by far the cheapest way to ship international. Like by a mile cheaper!

Too bad Kevin Costner can't deliver on his horse over the pond.

I've got a G2 on my FJR so when I read this thread it was a no-brainer to order one for the new MT
Hopefully it will arrive by the time I collect the bike at the end of next week.

Funnily enough the discussions on here regarding the CO settings are almost the same as on the FJR forum with most owners increasing the readings by 10 - 15 but I found this wasn't as effective as the G2 on mine

I ignored the tracking, it was useless!

So should co settings be zero or not with the g2?
May as well stick with 14. The CO setting is just adding a touch of fuel to the initial roll on which in turn smooths things out a little.

Exactly the same as on the FJR.

The theory goes something like this :-
When you close the throttle the ECU shuts off VIRTUALLY ALL fuel to the fuel injection system - partly to improve fuel consumption figures but mainly to comply with emissions targets.
There's JUST enough fuel getting through to stop the engine stalling and allow it to tick over with no load.
Therefore when you twist the grip there is a momentary lapse while the fuel finds its way through.
Setting the CO to about 15 allows a TINY bit more fuel through at tickover but enough to reduce the hesitation when you grab a handfull
(It also reduces the fuel consumption slighly)
Some riders don't notice any difference, some do.
It depends on whether your "style" is to shut the throttle going into a bend and snap it open part way round to get drive out, or you brake before a bend but keep a touch of throttle on and open it more as you exit a bend.
I think the fly-by wire system exagerates the 'problem' ( I read somewhere, perhaps here, that there is nothing between 0% and 7% throttle opening on the ECU which would account for the jerk)

Sometimes it's best just to get on it and ride it ;)
