after market air filter

Can someone explain to me how the aftermarket filters improve performance?
My understanding was that the OEM filter air flow was far more than the engine required, so how does providing yet more flow improve matters?

Simple, it's a very complex theory call the placebo effect.

I have finally got the filter so all I need is the weather to change so I can try it then I need to run it up on the dyno
It's taken some time getting this filter I hope I can tell the difference
