I think there have been a few side discussions, but I'd like to pose the question - Do you use a camera when you ride? If so, which one and why? Where do you mount it?

I've narrowed it down to two options - GoPro H3 (not the +) or a Drift HD Ghost. I'd be interested in options and advice.

Cheers!

im still looking for an action camera , but when im out cottaging I just use my phone camera but I might start using a helmet cam for close ups.

I use one of these Chipfat. It's the Hurdy Gurdy portable cine cam 2000. Bastart to mount on my helmet but if people stay still long enough it gives some lovely grainy blurred images that make everybody look like they walk fast and funny

I don't really I use the ubiquitous GoPro Hero 3 Silver
Takes a bit of getting used to but used with the preview function on app on either iOS or Android phones it's bloody amazing quality viewed on HD TV
Mounted on helmet and on bike/ surfboard/ skis/ kayak etc.
You will become addicted to buying new mounts and making your own,,,,

Lol. yes u will. I was looking thru my bag of mounts and mount paraphernalia and counted no less than 18 mounts, 12 3M sticky adhesive patches, countless extensions for mounting it to vertically any surface lol. I think I need a little clear out [emoji9]

Haha I've even made my own floaty from one of the wife's shampoo bottles glued up!
Kids love using it in the pool on holiday.

Chesty mount for skiing and snowboarding my favourite and gives incredible footage on a bluebird day. Not so good in flat heavy light- that's where battery eating Protune gets used but halves filming time [emoji45]

Groan

I bought one of the Chinese knock off ones for around £8 and it's really good quality believe it or not! Exactly same as original but without the logos on. Everything thick and heavy duty was a bloomin bargain

GoPro 4 is rumoured for a summer launch.
Maybe worth wait, if you want to spend +£400

Personally, I've got my Hero 2 up for sale, now I've got the LiquidImage Ego instead :)

I use a GoPro H3 Black, diving, snorkelling, riding etc.

It's not just for "action" shooting either. I have been playing with the timelapse function, and I "MacGuyvered" together a rotating mount using an egg timer, araldite, duct tape and a tripod...

the gopro chesty has a design flaw which makes a constant creaking sound when filming. its the plastic buckle rubbing on the mount pad. you can fix it by unpicking the stitching and moving the buckle away from the pad, then sewing it back together and taking a bit out of the slack from moving the buckle................now all i get is excess wind noise.......

........that'll be the hobgoblin then......

Guys, The Drift HD Ghost is a great camera, i use one every day. I chose it over the GoPro because its waterproof, without the need for a case, and as i was mounting it on my helmet, it has a smaller surface area for wind resistance, because the lens is right on the end. It also has a screen which the GoPro Doesn't. You can also put an external mic on, and be in the rain. The GoPro doesn't allow for that. You can get 10% off at action cameras.co.uk.

Sounds like a plan lol
