Hi Guys. My Deep armour ABS with Akrapovic and R&G tail tidy is being delivered tomorrow ready for the off on Saturday but I have the owners manual and have concerns about a couple of things.
1. manual states it has a VRLA battery and needs certain type of charger.......will my Optimate 111SP be ok?
2. of greater concern is it states that because it is ABS the bike should go back to dealer just to take the wheels off!!! Having done all my own maintenance and repairs for the past 35 years I do not intend to start paying someone else to take my wheels off unless there is a perfectly good reason.......Is there a perfectly good reason or is it a money making exercise?

This is my first ABS bike and having read about them being recalled already along with this possible maintenance problem I am beginning to wonder if I should have opted for the nonABS.

I'm having the same thought. Also my first ABS bike and seeing to many little problems and extra money for maintenance... Should have gone for the non-ABS version and saved 500€
 
It is a shame about the ABS issue, but i still do think ABS could save you one day, on that one occasion where your riding in wet conditions and someone pulls out on you, you'll appreciate it!. I had many injuries in a crash, that potentially wouldn't have happened had i had ABS.

Saying that………. I didn't get an ABS model lol

true crotch mate, also from what I have read the abs had same braking performance in the wet from 70mph to standstill as the non abs in the dry , it was mentioned in this months bike mag.

True crotchrocket... I think ABS is only good for braking in the rain... Other than that I think it is overrated...
 
I think as a safety feature it's great, but..... once you get used to the fact that you can squeeze crap out the lever and not lock the wheel, and then one day you go back to a non abs bike and forget uhoh!

What happens if the sythem fails ... its a part on a bike that if it fail is disaster
 
they are phasing in that all bikes over 125 will have abs on by law, if you think about it our weather and state of the roads right now is crap so its a good thing, I also think a variable type of traction control would be a good idea, but one that isn't overly intrusive.

I could've used some of that black magic back last year when I got flung arse over tit.

Seriously though Im a bit old school when it comes to that electronic witchcraft on bikes.

That's what brought me to the MT in first place, the lack of ABS & TC- well that and the price!

Exactly the way i feel about all that techy stuff on bikes...!
They interfere way to much lol

Probably not mentioned it before, i am a vehicle tech of some 30 years experience, used to do mot's, specialised in electronic diagnostics, ABS on a bike is much the same as a car in components and function, just less wheels, seen loads of failed ABS systems on cars, they just stop like normal non abs cars, Most usual failure is the wheel speed sensors, the wires to them fatigue and go open circuit.
