Anyone done the ZX10 rear shock mod?

Hi gang,

I notice a few people have commented about replacing the MT-09 rear shock with one from a ZX10.
Is there a particular year that is best suitable (I have the opportunity to get a 2009 one) and is it a straight swap or are there any modifications necessary?
Any top tips will be most welcome.

Good question. If any other quality shocks fit, would be interesting to know. I would have thought other Yamaha ones would be similar, R6 or R1?

my r1 has the wrong ends on it......i will get round to asking maxton to sort that soon.

I'm intrested of this too. I really would not like to change ride height compared to original - so is zx10r shock then out of the question?
What need to be done to fit zx10r shock and can ride height be adjusted to same as original (or close)?

And here someone saying that to set more free sag to get ride height to original: ZX10 rear shock

Maybe longer shock then does not affect to ride heigth and does not change bike driving characteristics - other than better.
