Ape tensionner should ship me their first manual tensionner prototype next week to do the fit. Look like that might be the best option.

I sent them an email ages ago about the MT09 asking if they would be doing a manual tensioner and they didn't even bother replying to my enquiry, they are on my shit list.
 
Well ,were up to 1500 miles now and it's still rattling ,so called dealers Again!
They told me ,yamaha said it's a noisy engine and it's possibly just the character of the motor.
Omfg !!
Dealer now wants me to leave it with them ,so he can see if he can hear "this noise" & then he wants to keep it for a week,, A EFFIN WEEK !! For a cct !! So they can order any parts needed ,then fit them. I think they don't believe me, that I'm delusional or something!
Service thru the NE of England is just ,,,, words fail me.
NEVER buying a new model bike ever again.
Should be perfect , not flawed as it is.

My CCT took a day to arrive from the time it was ordered. Booking the bike in was a different matter !

I dropped it off yesterday and it'll be ready today. Brand new ranges of bikes always have teething issues, after two years of production they become almost fault free with their issues being ironed out. If you want a good bike buy an older but new. At least warranty is covering our cct's and it's not something that destroys our engine and leaves you stranded by the side of the road.

The mechanism feel pretty cheap inside from playing with it a bit. Get it adjusted and install a longer bolt. Fingertip tight against the set screw inside and lock up the jam nut... end of the story. Few $ that will make your life much easier and stress free.
 
Told dealer today that I'm not dropping off on Saturday for him to have it a week. They were not gonna give a loan bike to get to work so I would've been stuffed, so I said I would arrange it for a later date.
Then I came home & took Marthys advice and nipped it up quarter turn which was enough! (Haven't got locking yet tho).
While I was in there I also adjusted the co settings via dash up to 12 from 0.
I was going to chk it out on a run out to biker meet at Whistlestop cafe in Whitby but my DooCatty mate let me down as he saw a cloud on the horizon lol.
I will blast it on the way to work tomorrow & see what happens.

There is a very good chance that it will slack off again. Mine would quickly back off again until I installed a 6 mm SS set screw with a SS nut to lock it in place. I also used a washer to keep from marking up the CCT cover. I simply adjusted the CCT with a 3 mm hex key while the bike was warmed up and running. You can feel the vibration through the wrench (better than listening for it). After I was satisfied at idle I held the engine at about 3000 rpm. I could feel the occasional vibration through the wrench so I turned it in a little more.....I would say less than 1/8th of a turn. At this point I shut the engine off and installed the set screw. The set screw need only be finger tight, just firm enough to stop the CCT from backing out. Hold the set screw in place and tighten a nut against the body of the CCT (use a washer if you want to avoid scratching/marking the CCT body). That's what worked for me.

I am not sure whether I will bother installing a new CCT after Yamaha fixes the bugs, or if I will install a manual CCT. Tending more towards a manual CCT.
 
After much faffing about, mine was done.... it took 15 minutes to fit, but i had to have half day off work . All this hassle, why dont Yam just change the bloody thing ASAP ?!! 1500 miles later all is good ! I put a small mark on mine to make sure it was changed , because i am a mistrusting bastard .It was changed, new one also has a white paint dot , and marked S1...original was marked S2 .

I'm a new member, although I've been lurking here for awhile, and reading up on things you guys (and gals) have been doing in terms of add-ons, customizations, talking about issues, etc. Anyway, I'd just like to chime in and say that I too have the dreaded Cam Chain Tensioner noise/rattle. It started after about 500 miles I would say, just prior to the first oil change. It's been there ever since - I took the bike back to the dealer a week ago, and they found the bulletin regarding CCT "Stiction" as they refer to it, and made an adjustment which quieted it down until I got about 3/4 of the way home. I'm going to bring it back if it ever stops raining here (Richmond VA USA) and have them take another crack at it, and then I'm going to insist they order me the updated CCT. So count me amongst the ones with the noisy CCT's....
 
Either I'm very lucky (unlikely) or I've either not noticed it or just gotten used to it but I've done nearly 2k miles and mines seemingly OK. I think I better have a closer look and adjust it a little, if it gets quieter then I'll know that there is an issue.

If you've got the baffle out of your Akra it's unlikely you'll hear it anyway. Sounds odd but if you...ahem... open your legs during riding if you have a cct rattle it will be more noticeable.

Yeah I know what you mean, I've only had the db killer out for the last two rides, but now you mention it when my right knee goes out I do hear a slight rattle, I'll give it a tweak before I go out next and see whats what.

In page 10 the posts between 4 May and 11 June have been missed..
I realize that searching my last post for CCT replacement on my MT and.. is missing.
Anyway i also have my cct changed with the third "developed" S1 with white mark.
As my mechanic explain to me, the difference is on the last number on bar code of the part, which is now 3 instead of 2 and 1 that were the former.
I fixed at 3000km, now i'm on 4600 without any rattle noise.
Admin please consider me on those who had fixed the problematic cct.

I guess as this thread has gone quiet everyone who had a problem has had it fixed now?
And i'm guessing the revised part has been put on the new bikes, so it's all sorted?

I've now got over 3,000 miles on mine and all is well.
Has anyone out there been ok and then had it go at a higher mileage?
If it was going to start rattling would it have happened by now?
 
mt MT is still stock.....it got real nasty on 1 ride up round TT's way but it hasnt made a sound since. i reckon my thrashing must have stretched it enough to get the next tooth on the adjuster to click in.
